Position: Internship for Environmental Engineers and Scientists - (Now closed for 2011)

Qualifications: Applicant must be a graduate student or an undergraduate student who has completed at least his/her junior year of studies in an engineering or science program with an environmental, water resources, biology, chemistry, or toxicology emphasis. We are most interested in hiring interns with the following characteristics:

Learning Opportunities: Interns will be assigned an Intern Mentor who will be the intern’s primary contact. Additionally, interns will work under professional staff supervision on specific projects. The projects generally include a mix of straightforward and complex tasks, technical and non-technical issues, and short- and long-term assignments. Interns will have opportunities to learn about the following areas of expertise:
- Federal and California water quality regulations
- Environmental planning tools such as TMDLs, basin plans, CEQA, and watershed-based analyses
- Application of scientific and technical principles to identify, research, and solve water quality problems
Skills/Knowledge Potentially Gained through Internship: Professional written/oral communication; technical writing; scientific literature review; MS Office; critical thinking; and time management.
Employment Information: The internship will be a full-time (30 to 40 hours/week) paid position. The term of the internship will be no shorter than two months, beginning no earlier than May 1, 2011 and ending no later than September 30, 2011.
