Position: Internship for Environmental Engineers and Scientists

Qualifications: Graduate students or undergraduate students who have completed their junior year of studies in civil engineering with an emphasis on environmental/water resources engineering - or majoring in a biological, chemical, physical, or environmental science or policy. We are most interested in hiring interns with the following characteristics:

Opportunities: Interns will have the opportunity to participate in a range of projects. These may involve the application of scientific methods and principles in the identification, research, and solution of problems in the areas of environmental monitoring, pollution sources, and watershed evaluation. Interns may also perform water quality monitoring field work and researching concerning water programs and regulations. Many projects involve technical writing. Interns will be assigned an Intern Mentor who will be the intern's primary contact. Additionally, interns will work under senior supervision and with professional staff on specific projects.

Skills/Knowledge Potentially Gained through Internship: Written/oral professional communication; technical writing; literature review; internet/scientific research; MS Access; critical thinking; and time management skills. Knowledge of environmental engineering topics such as regulatory processes; TMDLs; basin plans; pollutant-specific issues; and watershed protection.

Employment Information: The internship will be full-time (30 to 40 hours/week) paid position. The term of the internship would be no shorter than two months to begin no earlier than May 1, 2010 and end no later than September 30, 2010.
